Guest Fee Demand Forces Bride To Cancel Wedding

A bride canceled her wedding after people would not pay the fifteen hundred dollars she expected from each guest. She talked about how weddings are beautiful but they also cost a lot so she figured guests could help cover it.

She took things too far when she tried to charge that fee, which she claimed would help her dream wedding happen. When people said no, she canceled the whole event, and that set off a lot of reactions online.

Some readers talked about how her attitude was the real problem and one person said: “This speaks volumes about her. If she loved him and I mean truly loved him, she would have been happy with something small and intimate. She’s a selfish self absorbed woman who deserves every bit of the pushback she got.”

Others pointed out that guests should not be expected to finance a wedding. Another person said it was probably a lucky escape for the groom.

The bride was known only as Susan, and she talked in an interview about her decision. She said her dream wedding would cost around sixty thousand dollars, and since she could not pay that, she figured the guests could step in.

She asked for fifteen hundred dollars from each guest as a donation to split the cost. A lot of people felt like this was not fair, and they told her that straight out.

When they refused, she got angry and said she did not understand why they would not help her. She said she expected them to understand what she wanted.

Susan posted on Facebook and said: “Dear friends, it comes with great sadness that I am announcing the cancellation of the wedding. I apologise for cancelling only four days beforehand. Unfortunately, fiance and I have broken up due to some recent and irreparable problems. We have decided to end our relationship and not go forth with any future proceedings.”

She continued in the post and said: “I specifically, I mean specifically, asked for cash gifts. We’d sacrificed so much and only asked each guest for around $1,500. We talked to a few people who even promised us more to make our dream come true.” She kept saying the amount was normal and not out of line.

She added that they made it clear if someone could not contribute then they were not invited because it was supposed to be an exclusive wedding. She said it was meant to be a once in a lifetime party.

When the expenses got overwhelming her fiancé suggested they do a simple elopement instead. Susan said: “I laughed in his face, but he was dead serious. He wanted those cheap, filthy, w**** like Vegas weddings. I mean WHAT the f***?? Was he out of his mind?” That argument led to him leaving the room.

She called her maid of honor hoping for support but was told she was demanding too much and needed to lower the budget. Susan said she felt betrayed because this friend had once offered her thousands.

Susan said: “I just wanted to be a Kardashian for a day and then live my life like normal. I called her a filthy f***ing poor excuse of a friend, and hung up.” She ended the post by saying she felt completely let down by everyone around her.
