Lifelong Dream Comes True For 79-Year-Old College Grad

We all have something that we would like to accomplish in life but there are going to be times when life also gets in the way. At times, we may not even be able to get back to the thing that we hold so dear.

One thing that Patricia Sias Ellis wanted to do in her life was to get a college education. Unfortunately, things did get in the way but she persisted and after 60 years, she is finally getting her diploma.

Patricia recently graduated from college and it is a goal that she says was six decades in the making. It happened at Clayton State University in Monroe when she put on her graduation cap, walked across the stage, and took the diploma in hand.

When Patricia was younger, she had to put her plans on hold because she was putting her family first. She worked hard to support those in her family and make sure her sons had good careers.

As she got older, she felt the need to put herself first and that is when she decided to go get her bachelors degree in criminal justice. She said: “I always knew that I was not finished. I did not feel like I had ever finished any of the things that I had started.”

She also spoke about how wearing a cap and gown for graduation was a dream of hers for a very long time. It’s also a dream that she was happy she could see to fruition.

Although most of her classmates were in their late teens or early 20s, she continued to shoot for the stars. Even today at 79 years old, she is proud of herself and the accomplishment she achieved in getting her diploma.
