Meghan Markle Clears Up Confusion Over Her Name Change

Meghan Markle has confirmed she no longer uses her maiden name. She mentioned it during her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, while chatting with actress Mindy Kaling.

Born Rachel Meghan Markle, she now goes by a different name in her daily life. A lot of fans didn’t expect that, and some were sure she was still using her old name.

One person wrote: “Good Lord! She wants the name but doesn’t want anything to do with the family.” Another asked: “What happened with the quiet life she wanted to enjoy?”

Others backed her up. One fan said: “They hate you, but they can’t stop talking about you.” Another added: “The hate for Meghan Markle is ridiculous. You’ve no real reason to hate her.”

Markle and Prince Harry were married in 2018, becoming the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Archie was born in 2019, and their daughter Lilibet followed in 2021.

Before Lilibet’s birth, they had already stepped down as senior royals, which caught a lot of people off guard at the time.

Some people have said the couple should lose their titles. That hasn’t happened, and Markle says the title means a lot to her.

When Kaling kept calling her Meghan Markle on the show, Markle jumped in: “It’s so funny too that you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I’m Sussex now.” She went on to say that sharing her name with her kids became more meaningful after they were born.

“You have kids and you go, ‘No, I should share my name with my children.’ I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just means so much to go, ‘This is our family name, our little family name.’”

In a magazine interview, Markle explained more about why she and Prince Harry kept Sussex as their last name. She said: “As the kids get older, they’re so excited about, ‘Oh my gosh, Mama and Papa, how did you meet?’

I think that will come with time as they get older, but for right now, a huge part of our love story is that we share the name Sussex.” She added: “It means a lot to me.”
