Mom Walks Out Of Wicked Sequel After Shock Scene

A mom said she walked out of Wicked For Good with her kids because she felt like the movie was casting spells over her family. The sequel hit theaters in November and there had already been talk online that the second part was going to be darker than the first one.

People familiar with the stage musical had warned that Act Two had character deaths and tough themes. Some even mentioned torture and kidnapping which made a lot of fans uneasy before the movie even came out.

One person online said it had a somber tone and worried that the family style marketing might backfire. They felt like angry parents would show up once they realized how much heavier everything felt in this part of the story.

Even though the movie has made a lot of money at the box office it still surprised some parents. Sara Burnett, who posts on Instagram as SincerelySaraB, shared her own reaction and why she left early.

She gave what she called her honest review and said it all centered around one intimate scene. Sara said: “I am shook with how they handled the movie” and added that her whole family loves theatre and musicals.

Her kids started looking uncomfortable during the scene which showed a man taking off a woman’s clothing in a romantic number. She said it crossed a line for her and she was not willing to sit through that with her children beside her.

The moment happens when Elphaba sings As Long As You’re Mine to Fiyero and the lyrics get suggestive. Sara said she felt uneasy with how the movie presented spells too.

She said: “But gosh, I am not sitting in a movie that is casting legit spells over me and my family and allowing my children to watch scenes where men are sexually taking off women’s clothing and music that is talking about them laying in bed together.”

Sara has a large following and usually posts about parenting and faith. She said she thought the spells in the movie had real purpose behind them and that her kids clearly reacted to certain parts.

Her instinct told her it was time to walk out and she tried to turn it into a lesson for her girls. They talked about how sometimes you need the courage to leave when something does not feel right.

She said it would not be the last time her girls would have to step out of a situation that was not from the Lord. And she encouraged people to stand firm in their faith even if others stay seated.

Sara was not alone either because other parents were questioning the PG rating. One mom online said the scene was too sexual for her comfort levels and for her young daughter.

Another parent said they would not have taken their child if they had known about it. A few people said they cringed when they noticed little kids in the audience during the intimate scene.

There were even reports of kids whispering that it was gross or asking if the characters were naked. It showed that a lot of families did not expect a moment like that in a movie presented as all ages.
