One Direction Legend Dies At 52 After Cancer Battle

Tributes are pouring in for Paul Roberts, the choreographer who worked with One Direction, Steps, and Harry Styles, after his death at the age of 52. His family said he passed away peacefully on Friday surrounded by loved ones after what they called a courageous battle with cancer.

His relatives shared on social media: “Yesterday evening, after a courageous battle with cancer, Paul passed away gently at home, surrounded by his family. His departure, much like his life, was filled with grace. RIP.”

Friends and stars from the music world reacted with sadness. Layton Williams said: “One of the kindest, most beautiful souls. Was an honour to know and have worked for you Paul. Sleep well beautiful man.”

Steps’ Ian H Watkins said: “Devastated. What an incredible human Paul was. Sending [tons] of love.”

Kimberley Walsh from Girls Aloud wrote: “This is the saddest news. I’m so, so sorry. Paul was very special indeed. Sending you all my love.”

Roberts helped shape some of One Direction’s biggest music videos like Best Song Ever and Kiss You. His work played a big role in the group becoming global stars. He later worked with Harry Styles on Treat People With Kindness, which won the MTV VMA for Best Choreography in 2021.

In an interview Roberts once said: “It was always really interesting working with One Direction. I knew very early on that there was a magic about them… They’d mess around doing silly dance moves but I’d think, ‘Actually if you wanted to dance really well you sure as hell could do it.’”

Many people remembered him not only for his creativity but for his warmth and kindness that left a mark on artists and fans everywhere.
