King Charles decided not to meet with Prince Harry during his recent visit to the UK, and the reason appears to center on Queen Camilla. A royal insider said the decision came after Harry made what were described as cruel remarks about Camilla in his memoir, Spare.
In the book, Harry accused Camilla of leaking stories about him and labeled her “dangerous.” He also claimed she was willing to sacrifice him on her own “personal PR altar,” remarks that reportedly caused lasting hurt inside the family.
In an earlier interview, Lady Lansdowne, who is godmother to Camilla’s daughter Laura Lopes, said the queen consort was clearly affected. She acknowledged that the comments hurt, even if Camilla tried not to let them consume her.
According to the insider, Harry made things harder for himself by repeatedly criticizing Camilla in public. The source said Charles loves his sons, but he also deeply loves his wife, and that loyalty matters.
The source added that recent months have shown just how important Camilla has become behind the scenes. Harry, they said, made his dislike very public and forced Charles into an unnecessary position, even though Charles and Camilla chose each other long ago.
Another insider explained that Prince William handled the situation differently. While William had reservations at first, he accepted his father’s choice and moved forward, unlike Harry, whose public comments created distance.
A friend of Prince William and Kate Middleton also weighed in, saying it was not surprising Charles did not invite Harry over. The source pointed out that Harry portrayed Camilla in extremely harsh terms in what became one of the biggest selling books in history.
A former Buckingham Palace staffer said the palace prefers Harry and Meghan to remain far away. They noted that Harry’s visit became a distraction when attention should have been on the king’s return to work.
The same source said allowing casual visits would only encourage more appearances. From their perspective, being exiled is meant to keep things quiet, not reopen tensions every time Harry passes through London.
Another insider criticized Harry for publicly stating that his father declined the meeting. They described the move as childish, saying it ignored the real reason behind the refusal.
Harry’s spokesperson responded by saying the meeting was not possible due to the king’s full schedule. The statement said Harry understood his father’s commitments and hoped to see him soon.
But a source dismissed that explanation outright. They said Harry must know the real reason had nothing to do with scheduling and everything to do with the damage caused by selling out his own family.
