In 2011, Turia Pitt was caught in a devastating grassfire while competing in an ultramarathon in Australia. She suffered severe burns to 65% of her body and faced an incredibly long road ahead. Months in hospital. Numerous surgeries. Years of rehabilitation. And the difficult process of rebuilding a life that had changed completely.
Beside her through those years was Michael Hoskin. He watched the woman he loved endure unimaginable pain, surgeries, and recovery, and continued building a life alongside her. Their story didn’t end in that hospital room. Turia went on to rebuild her career and life. She and Michael later married. And together, they became parents.
Their relationship is powerful not because life was easy for them. It’s powerful because it wasn’t. Love is beautiful when everything is going right. But sometimes its deepest meaning appears when life changes without warning and someone looks at you through all of it and still says, “I’m here.”
The fire changed Turia’s life forever. But it didn’t get to write the ending of their story. Michael made sure of that.
