A village in India was left stunned when a two-year-old boy killed a cobra by biting it to death. The remarkable incident occurred in Bankatwa village, located in the Majhaulia block of Bihar’s West Champaran district.
Little Govinda Kumar was playing outside his home when a venomous three-foot-long cobra appeared and coiled itself tightly around his arm. According to family members, Govinda first tried to scare the snake away by throwing a brick at it. However, when the snake struck and wrapped around his hand, the toddler reacted instinctively—biting the cobra’s head, ultimately killing it.
His grandmother, Mateshwari Devi, said that by the time the family reached him, he had already sunk his teeth into the snake, which lay dead in his grip. Shortly afterward, Govinda passed out from the encounter.
The child was immediately taken to a nearby clinic, and then referred to the Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) in Bettiah. Doctors believe that Govinda’s bite fatally injured the cobra’s head and mouth. Fortunately, while the venom did affect him, it was not fatal.
Dr. Surab Kumar, the doctor overseeing his treatment, said that the child received timely care and was in stable condition. “He is under continuous observation,” the doctor added, noting they confirmed through multiple checks that Govinda had not suffered a venomous bite himself.
Govinda is now recovering well under medical supervision after being administered anti-allergy medicine and is expected to make a full recovery.
