8 Early Warning Signs Of Ovarian Cancer You Shouldn’t Ignore

Ovarian cancer, often called “The Silent Killer,” shows no symptoms for a long time, and when they appear, they’re vague and easily mistaken for other conditions. Sadly, most cases are diagnosed late, when treatment options are limited. According to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, “for every 100 women whose symptoms match those of ovarian cancer, only one would actually have early-stage ovarian cancer.” Still, if unusual symptoms persist, don’t ignore them—only 20% of cases are found early, when they are most curable.

The most common type is epithelial tumors, making up 90% of cases. Less common are stromal tumors, developing in the ovaries’ supporting tissue, and germ cell tumors, starting in egg-producing cells.

Eight main warning signs include:

* Abdominal swelling, bloating, or tightness in clothes.
* Persistent pelvic or abdominal pain.
* Loss of appetite or feeling full quickly.
* Unexplained fatigue or low energy.
Even one of these, if lasting over two weeks, should be checked.

Risk factors include being over 50 (especially over 60), family history of ovarian, breast, or colon cancer, never giving birth, and starting periods early or reaching menopause late. As the article warns: “Better safe than sorry.”
