If you’ve ever been far away from your significant other, you realize that it can be a great thing to get back together again. Apparently, Jeff Bezos was feeling it when he went to meet his fiancée.
When Jeff Bezos was rushing to greet his fiancée, he was doing more than inviting her back from a trip across the country or even from another continent. He was rushing to welcome her back to earth.
The Blue Origin founder and the founder of Amazon was a little excited when he went to meet the all-female crew, along with his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez. They were touching down on earth on Monday, April 14, and he was there to meet them.
Sanchez and five other famous faces were on board the historic launch. It included Katy Perry, the pop music star, and Aisha Bowe, a former NASA rocket scientist. Other people on board the flight included civil rights activist Amanda Nguyễn, journalist and cohost of CBS Morning, Gayle King, and Kerianne Flynn, a documentary producer.
The group had recently gone into space for 11 minutes, departing from West Texas at Launch Site One. When they landed in the Texas desert, 61-year-old Bezos was running to greet them when he tripped and face-planted in the dirt.
It didn’t seem to stop him from having a good time, as he was celebrating shortly after with Sanchez. They had recently announced their engagement last May.
Sanchez gave a hug to the family, who were also waiting with Bezos where the capsule landed. She said: “I can’t put it into words. We got to see the Moon! The Earth looked so quiet… I don’t think you could describe it.”
Bezos’ fiancée was enjoying the first space tourism mission for Blue Origin. It was the 11th human flight for the company but for Sanchez, it was a moment she would never forget.
The capsule was in orbit 62 miles above the Earth, which is the line that designates the boundary between our atmosphere and outer space. For three minutes, the team was able to float weightless in the capsule.
This was also the first time that an all-female crew was sent into space since the Soviet Union did so with a solo orbit in 1963. The team was able to see the earth, moon, and the void.
Katy Perry said that she is going to record a song about the experience, as you can imagine. She took a daisy flower along with her on the flight, which represented her daughter Daisy.
Perry said: “Daisies are common flowers but they grow through any condition. They grow through cement, cracks, walls. They are resilient, they are strong, they are everywhere.
“Flowers, to me, are God’s smile but they are also a reminder of our beautiful Earth. The beautiful magic is everywhere, all around us, even in a simple daisy.”
