Jay woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of his wife groaning beside him.
He switched on the bedside lamp and found her curled up, clutching her stomach.
“What’s wrong?” he asked nervously.
“My stomach… it hurts terribly,” she whispered.
Jay immediately panicked. He had no medical knowledge whatsoever, but after watching several hospital dramas, he considered himself almost qualified.
He pressed random parts of her abdomen and asked, “Does it hurt here?”
“Ouch!”
Jay’s eyes widened.
“That’s definitely the appendix!”
He grabbed the phone and called their doctor at two in the morning.
After several rings, a sleepy voice answered.
“Hello?”
“Doc, my wife is having severe abdominal pain. I think it’s her appendix.”
The doctor sighed deeply.
“What nonsense! I took out your wife’s appendix two years ago. Go back to sleep.”
Before Jay could explain anything else, the doctor hung up.
Jay returned to the bedroom, but his wife was still groaning.
He paced around the room, checked the internet, became even more convinced, and called the doctor again five minutes later.
The doctor answered in a much less friendly voice.
“What is it now?”
“Doc, I’m sure it’s her appendix.”
“Oh God!” the doctor groaned. “Did you ever hear of anyone having a second appendix?”
“No…,” says Jay. “But I’m sure you must have heard of someone having a second wife..!!!!”
