A man went to see his doctor because he had been suffering from terrible constipation.
He looked miserable.
“I’ve tried everything,” he complained. “More water, more vegetables, more walking… nothing works.”
The doctor nodded seriously, examined him, and finally wrote out a prescription.
“Take one of these tablets last thing at night,” he said. “They should get things moving.”
The man thanked him and went home feeling hopeful.
For the next two weeks, he followed the instructions perfectly.
Every night before bed, he took one tablet with a glass of water.
Exactly two weeks later, he returned for his check-up.
The doctor looked through his notes and asked,
“So, how is the constipation?”
The man sighed deeply.
“The pills work fine.”
The doctor smiled.
“Excellent! So everything’s back to normal?”
“Well… I go every morning at 7.30.”
The doctor looked pleased.
“That sounds very regular. In fact, that’s exactly what we were hoping for.”
But the patient still looked absolutely miserable.
The doctor leaned forward.
“So why the long face?”
The man stared at him and replied,
“Because I don’t get up until 8 o’clock ! ! !”
