The Perfect Golf Gift

A man and his wife had one of those late-night arguments that started over something small and somehow turned into a full review of every mistake either of them had made since 1998.

Eventually, the husband had enough.

He jumped out of bed, grabbed a blanket and announced that he was sleeping on the couch.

The next morning, his wife felt guilty.

She decided the best way to make peace was to buy him something connected to his favorite hobby: golf.

So she went to the pro shop at the course where he usually played.

The golf pro listened carefully and suggested a beautiful new putter.

“This is one of our finest,” he said proudly.

The wife examined it.

“How much is it?” she asked.

“One hundred and fifty pounds,” he replied.

She nearly dropped it.

“That seems a little expensive.”

The pro smiled.

“But it comes with an inscription.”

That caught her attention.

“What kind of inscription?”

“Whatever you wish,” he explained, “but one of the old golfers favourites is, ‘NEVER UP, NEVER IN.’”

The wife’s eyes widened.

She stared at the putter.

Then at the salesman.

Then back at the putter.

Her face suddenly turned red as memories of the previous night came flooding back.

“Oh, that will never do!” exclaimed the wife.

“That’s what started the argument in the first place!”
