Jennifer Aniston Reflects on the Evolution of Comedy and the Changing Times

Jennifer Aniston, the beloved actress from the hit TV show “Friends,” has been reminiscing about the past and how it differs from the present. While promoting her new Netflix movie, “Mystery 2,” alongside Adam Sandler, Aniston shared her thoughts on how comedy has changed over the years.

Speaking to AFP in Paris, Aniston noted that comedy has evolved significantly, making it challenging for comedians to navigate the sensitive landscape. “Comedy has evolved, movies have evolved,” she said. “Now it’s a little tricky because you have to be very careful, which makes it really hard for comedians.”

Aniston also touched on the cultural shift that has taken place since “Friends” first aired in 1994. She acknowledged that the show, which was once a staple of American television, may now be viewed as offensive by some. “There’s a whole generation of people, kids, who are now going back to ‘Friends’ episodes and find them offensive,” she said.

The actress recognized that the show’s lack of diversity was a significant issue, one that has been criticized over the years. Marta Kauffman, a co-creator of the series, had previously expressed regret over the show’s lack of diversity. “It’s not easy to admit and accept guilt,” Kauffman said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. “I regret not having more knowledge twenty-five years ago.”

Aniston’s comments highlight the challenges of creating content that is both funny and respectful in today’s sensitive environment. As the actress noted, comedy is meant to be a way of making fun of ourselves and life, but it’s now a delicate balancing act.
